The national police services of Tipasa, in coordination with the navy and coastguard unit of Bouharoun, east of the capital of the wilaya of Tipasa, thwarted, last weekend, two separate attempts at illegal emigration by sea and proceeded to arrest 21 individuals, according to the press release of the communication cell of the security of the wilaya.
The first operation, carried out by the services of the BMPJ (Mobile Brigade of the Judicial Police) of Bou-Ismail, with the support of the maritime unit and the coast guards of Bouharoun, made it possible to foil this clandestine crossing from the coast of the commune of Bou-Ismail. It resulted in the arrest of 15 people, including 3 illegal smugglers, as well as the seizure of a boat and a sum of money in foreign currency estimated at 1,730 euros, the press release states.
The second operation was the work of the judicial police services of the wilaya of Tipasa as well as the coast guards. The latter, after investigations and by following the movements of the suspected persons, proceeded to the arrest of 6 individuals who were about to embark at the seafront of the city of Tipasa, including 2 smugglers.
After completing all legal procedures, the suspects were presented before the competent judicial authorities at the Tipasa Court on charges of illegal trafficking of migrants within an organized criminal gang and attempting to leave the national territory fraudulently, it was further stated.
