In a quality operation, the elements of the Research Brigade under the National Gendarmerie Group of Laghouat neutralized a criminal network of hard drug trafficking composed of seven traffickers, including a foreigner, while more than 44 kg of cocaine as well as three vehicles used in the convoy of these drugs were seized, this was announced, the day before yesterday Saturday, in a press release from this security body.
“As part of the fight against organized crime, in all its forms, across the territory of the territorial group of the National Gendarmerie of Laghouat, the elements of the research brigade put an end to the activity of a transnational criminal gang specialized in the transport, storage and illicit trafficking of drugs throughout the national territory,” reads the same press release. It all started during a check of a passenger vehicle by the elements of the Customs under the Regional Brigade of Laghouat specialized in the fight against the scourge of smuggling at the level of National Road 01 connecting the wilayas of Laghouat and Djelfa, a search that led to the discovery of a large quantity of hard drugs carefully hidden inside the car driven by one of the seven members belonging to the criminal network, who was arrested, while an estimated quantity of 44.278 kg of cocaine was recovered, indicated the same source.
Immediately, the case was transferred to the Gendarmes Investigators of the Laghouat Research Brigade given the considerable quantity of cocaine seized. Opening an in-depth investigation into this organized criminal case and interviewing the arrested driver and member of said criminal network, the investigators of the Laghouat Gendarmerie Research Brigade managed to identify six other members belonging to the same criminal network thanks to the confessions given by the acolyte driver. The latter, aged between 30 and 52, underlines the press release of the National Gendarmerie, were all apprehended during various operations and searches carried out by the gendarmes-investigators from the Laghouat Research Brigade as part of an operation to extend expertise carried out outside the wilaya of Laghouat, or even in several wilayas of the country, specifies the press release of the National Gendarmerie.
One of the seven members of the dismantled criminal network is of foreign nationality, adds the same source. In all, 3 vehicles, mobile phones and sums of money in national currency and foreign currencies were seized as part of the extension of expertise, said the press release from the National Gendarmerie. Finally, the accused will be brought before the competent courts for “possession, transport, storage and illicit trafficking of hard drugs (cocaine) in a transnational organized criminal gang”, concludes the press release from the GN.
