Electronic payment: 70 % of transactions go through Baridi Mob

The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki.

The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, revealed that 70 % of electronic payment operations carried out with the EDAHABIA card in Algeria are via the Baridi MOB application, nearly 60 million transactions per year. He also said that the number of EDAHABIA cards issued by Algeria Post now exceeds 15 million, against only 5 million in 2020.

In a written response to the deputy Abdelouahab Yaâkoubi, the Minister indicated that the electronic payment terminals (TPE) constitute one of the means used in the country alongside payment by QR Code, the Baridi Mob application and online payment. He stressed that global trends are increasingly favoring these dematerialized means, due to their flexibility, their simplicity of use and the diversity of the services they offer to citizens.

Zerrouki explained that the Baridi Mob application, which today has more than 5 million subscribers, is experiencing an increasing enthusiasm thanks to its multiple features, such as the recharge of mobile phones, the rules of invoices from Algeria Telecom, the payment of the fixed internet, the rules of water and electricity bills … It has become an essential tool to carry out daily transactions, Reduce pressure on post offices.

The Minister highlighted the digital infrastructure adopted, specifying that the digital monetic platform of Algeria Post is a secure and efficient system, capable of processing various financial operations 24/7, while guaranteeing a high level of protection for its users and the fluidity of transactions.

He added that the generalization of electronic payment constitutes a major axis of the sectoral action plan inscribed in the government roadmap. This plan is based on three axes: the development of digital solutions and payment services, the expansion of the network of monetic cards and the intensification of awareness campaigns to encourage citizens to adopt electronic payment.

Zerrouki has also stressed that the massive production and distribution of EDAHABIA cards in recent years have made it possible to go from 5 million cards in 2020 to more than 15 million today, a significant increase in a reduced period of time. He insisted on the importance of awareness -raising actions to publicize citizens the advantages of electronic payment, his role in the facilitation of transactions and the reduction in the use of cash.

Finally, the Minister invited the deputy Abdelouahab Yaâkoubi to visit the structures of Algeria post specialized in electronic payment, in order to note in the field the efforts made, the indicators affected and the means available to strengthen this strategic sector.
