🇸🇾/✡️ NEW: Syrian Jew Rabbi Yusuf Hamra has announced his candidacy for the People’s Assembly in the Damascus district, marking the first time a Jew has sought political office in Syria since 1967

Hamra has also pledged $100,000 to help rebuild Syria following a meeting with Ahmad Al-Sharaa in New York.

Since becoming president, Al-Sharaa has been welcoming and inclusive toward the Jewish community, allowing at least four visits from Jewish delegations, including some Israeli citizens, to meet with Syrian officials in Damascus.

Additionally, last week, he met with Jewish-American billionaire and president of the World Jewish Congress, Ronald Lauder, and they held ‘very positive’ discussions about normalization with Israel.

Notably, Lauder oversaw the privatization of the World Trade Center.
