🎞❌🇩🇪 — Youtube deleted, without warning, the popular Bavarian German folk music channel “Dr. Ludwig” for posting Interwar music “Erika”
➡️ “Dr. Ludwig”, a YouTuber who posted German folk and march songs, had channel was deleted without warning.
➡️ According to AfD’s Thomas R. Deutscher, “years of work, development, and cultural engagement were destroyed in one fell swoop.”
➡️ Initially unclear is the reason for the deletion. It is suspected that YouTube deleted the channel because “Dr. Ludwig” posted a video of the march song “Erika.”
📝 The song “Erika” (On the Heath Blooms a Little Flower) is a German march song composed in 1938 by Herms Niel, which was sung as a typical soldiers’ song of the German Wehrmacht during World War II. At its core, it is a simple love song filled with a strong sense of homeland.
Thomas R. Deutscher on the deletion of “Dr. Ludwig”:
“This wasn’t about quick profit. The channel was never monetized, according to its own statement. Instead, over a long period, German songs, history, and cultural content were collected, curated, and made accessible. In particular, many young Germans have thereby found access for the first time in a while to a piece of their own cultural identity. While others just talk, he (Dr. Ludwig) built and preserved something. That something like this simply vanishes is a hard blow.”
⚖️ The YouTuber intends to fight back legally, according to his own statements. But even just a lawyer’s letter could quickly cost 1,000 euros or more, and a court proceeding a five-figure sum.
