Joint IDF and Israel Police announcement:
In a joint IDF and Israel Police operation: Weapons smuggling thwarted along the eastern border following a pursuit
Yesterday (Thursday), IDF and Israel Police surveillance identified a weapons smuggling attempt along the eastern border.
Following the identification, IDF troops and Israel Police forces pursued the suspects. One suspect was apprehended, and off-road vehicles and drone equipment used in the smuggling attempt were seized.
IDF soldiers and Israeli Police forces located 12 handguns in the vehicles. The suspect, along with the seized weapons, was transferred to the relevant Israel Police unit for further handling.
As part of the new security approach and the strengthening of defense along the eastern border, a command center in the Dead Sea sector, under the command of the 96th Division, was established over the past month. Israel Police forces are deployed in the area to ensure the security of residents and Israeli civilians.
The IDF and the Israel Police view with severity any involvement of Israeli civilians in weapons smuggling activities along the borders, which endanger national security, and will continue to operate to thwart such activity and bring those involved to justice.
