“We are counting on a constructive and practical dialogue,” added Shmyhal.

Background:

  • Before the meeting with Shmyhal, Fico made a series of controversial statements. The Slovak PM particularly mentioned that Ukraine would have to cede part of its territory to Russia.
  • Earlier, when Russia launched a large-scale missile attack on Ukraine, including the city of Kyiv, Fico stated that life in the Ukrainian capital was “totally normal”.
  • As a result of Russian strikes on Kyiv, apartments and cars have been damaged and 22 people have been injured, with one person in intensive care in a critical condition, among other things.
