Road reopens to traffic at Dnipro hydroelectric dam in Zaporizhzhia

The road along the dam at the Dnipro hydroelectric power plant (HPP) reopened for passenger cars on the evening of 22 March, having been closed following a Russian attack on the night of 21-22 March.

The oblast and city authorities, utilities, emergency services, employees of the HPP and industrial facilities, and patrol police – all services have been working non-stop to reopen the connection between the two banks of Zaporizhzhia as soon as possible.”

Details: During a broadcast of Ukrainska Pravda.Summary, Fedorov said the connection would only be partially restored, as part of the roadbed has been completely destroyed.

The road along the HPP dam connects the left bank of the city of Zaporizhzhia to the right bank.

Background:

• Ukraine’s largest hydroelectric power plant – Dnipro HPP in Zaporizhzhia – was hit in a missile attack on 22 March. There is no threat of a dam breach, and the situation at the dam is under control.
• Later, it became known that Russian missiles hit Dnipro HPP eight times.
• Meanwhile, Ukrhydroenergo is not ruling out that the Russians may have intended to destroy the power station completely.
• Some equipment at the Dnipro HPP has been restarted, but the plant is not yet generating electricity.
• A full assessment and examination of the damage caused to the Dnipro HPP by the Russian missile strikes will take about three days.
