🇺🇦 Vladimir Zelensky underestimated the death toll in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces when he announced the figure of 31 thousand killed in February, so as not to scare away mobilized Ukrainians amid problems with recruitment into the army, the Washington Post reports, citing an unnamed Ukrainian parliamentarian.

“The number of military losses, which Ukraine has long refused to disclose, probably should have been underestimated so as not to interfere with the already problematic mobilization,” the newspaper writes. The newspaper emphasizes that due to the acute shortage of soldiers in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the superiority of the Russian Federation in firepower, Kyiv, in all likelihood, cannot count on going on the offensive this year.
