The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Mr. Lounès Magramane, received Ms. Valérie Newsom Guarnieri, assistant to the Executive Director of the World Food Program (WFP), indicated, this Wednesday, a press release from the ministry.
Ms. Guarnieri is making an official visit to Algeria, from May 13 to 16, 2024, accompanied by Ms. Corinne Fleischer-Shneider, Regional Director Middle East and North Africa (MENA) for the WFP. While welcoming the long-standing commitment of the humanitarian agency to Sahrawi refugees, the two officials welcomed “the excellent cooperative relationship that exists between Algeria and the WFP, as well as the realization of this visit which will also be an opportunity for the WFP delegation to visit the Sahrawi refugee camps near Tindouf.
Magramane recalled, in this context, “the efforts made by Algeria for almost half a century to offer Sahrawi refugees protection and assistance, in the spirit of solidarity and the tradition of Algerian hospitality, and in accordance with its international obligations in this matter,” concludes the press release.
