The tragic disappearance by drowning of five children aged between 9 and 12 years old, from the commune of Ain Boucif in the wilaya of Médéa, which occurred last Saturday at the Promenade des Sablettes in Algiers, created a major controversy on the networks social on the safety of schoolchildren for the next school excursions. Thus, the educational outings constantly called school excursions are the subject of a controversy on the Web following the tragedy of the Sablettes of Algiers, where the doubt and fear displayed by some Internet users very quickly reached the majority of Algerians, especially parents. Almost everyone is now afraid of letting their child go on a school excursion after the terrible death of the five schoolchildren in Sablettes d’Algiers. This is logically obvious for many parents despite the fact that it is an extremely rare case.
On the networks, the sad news of the death of the five children quickly made the rounds, while subsequently creating a wave of developments around the safety of school excursions. A controversy surrounding educational outings has erupted on the Web, ranging from the logical fear of parents for their offspring to talk of a ban on all excursion initiatives while no declaration from those responsible or official press releases have been made public. . Likewise, several schools which had scheduled outings for students at the end of the school year are unable to decide and some have canceled altogether. A situation that the Ministry of National Education wants to avoid, because schoolchildren must take advantage of educational and relaxation outings while respecting all safety standards.
No ban on school excursions has been issued to date by the Ministry of National Education, quite the contrary, the supervisory authority is well aware of the situation and what happened in Sablettes d’Algiers is only a rare case and this does not prevent the continuity of school excursions for the good of the schoolchildren. It is unimaginable to ban school excursions through which schoolchildren benefit from moments of relaxation, leisure, sport, games and above all to visit their beautiful country, beautiful buildings and historic places. According to a source close to the Ministry of National Education, the latter informed us, yesterday Wednesday, of its great pain at the tragic disappearance of the five schoolchildren and its compassion with the families of the deceased but, on the other hand, the same source told us that the continuation of school excursions despite the great controversy surrounding this affair. Better still, the authority denies any responsibility in this tragedy because, according to the same source, the excursion in which around 60 schoolchildren from the Mohamedi Mohamed school in Ain Boucif (Médéa) participated, was organized by volunteers from a local Association and the Youth Center of the said wilaya therefore, the school establishment has no part of responsibility in this tragedy. A calamity which could have been avoided if all the conditions were present, including those linked to the safety of schoolchildren.
The number of supervisors for this school expedition seems, at first glance, small and insufficient to be able to both contain and secure a larger number of schoolchildren. The arrest and placement in police custody of seven people involved in this tragedy, as was informed a few days ago by the Attorney General at the Court of Algiers, did not, however, reveal the outcome of this case. at a time when the in-depth investigation by specialized police investigators continues. Also, it must be noted and raised at the same time, the security system around the Promenade des Sablettes in Algiers seems, in turn, insufficient and almost non-existent, thus preventing rapid intervention in the event of a misfortune like this. was the case, unfortunately, of this tragic night of May 11, 2024. A painful date which will remain as an awakening in the minds of Algerians. A lesson for everyone to learn. And life continues on its way just as school excursions will continue and far from the false controversy on the Web.
