Le sprinteur Athmani Skander Djamil champion du monde du 100m (T13) – Le Jeune Indépendant


Algerian sprinter Athmani Skander Djamil was crowned world champion in the 100m event, class (T13), after winning hands down, Monday in Kobe, Japan, the final of the 11th World Para-Athletics Championships (17 -May 25).

In a fairly fast race, Athmani Skander Djamil left no chance to his opponents, notably the Japanese Shuta Kawakami, second, the colossal Norwegian Salum Ageze Kashafali, the world record holder for the event in 10.37, but also the Australian Chad Perris. The Algerian’s domination was evident from the last 50 meters where he took the advantage which widened until the finish line, crossed in 10.44, a new African record for Skander.

Second place went to the Japanese Kawakami in 10.70, and the 3rd to the Norwegian Kashafali in 10.79. This medal of the athlete Athmani Skander Djamil in the 100m (T13) is the 3rd gold for Algeria, after that of Nassima Saifi in the discus throw with a throw of 33.90m, achieving his best performance of the season, and Ahmed Mehideb in the (Club/F32) throw with a throw of 37.61m. While Walid Ferhah (36.30m), added a silver medal to the same Club competition and Fakhreddine Thelaidjia a bronze in the 400m (T36), with a time of 54.53. With this harvest of five medals, Algeria shares with England, 3rd place in the provisional medal table after four days of competition.

During the finals played on Monday in Kobe, athlete Hamdi Sofiane finished the 200m final, class T37, in 5th position, with a time of 24.17, achieving his best performance of the season. The podium of the event went to Andrei Vdovin (under neutral flag) in 23.09, followed by the Pole Michal Kotkowski (23.44) and Saptoyogo Purnomo in 23.61.

For his part, the javelin thrower (F38), Lazhar Ziamni also settled for 5th place with a throw of 35.78 meters, far from the three winners: the Colombians Gregorio Lemos Rivas (56.75m) and Fernando Lucumi Villegas (52.73m) and the Chinese An Dongquan (51.21m). For her part, thrower Nadjet Bouchref (F51) ranked 4th in the discus competition (F51/52), with a throw of 6.68 meters, nevertheless achieving a new African record in the specialty. The podium was won by the Brazilian, Elizabeth Rodrigues (F53) in 14.22 meters, ahead of the Japanese Keiko Onidani (F53) with 14.49 meters and Elena Gorlova (neutral Paralympic athlete), 12.67 meters.
