The Palestinian Islamic resistance movement Hamas criticized the statement by the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, according to which the arrest and detention warrants against the Prime Minister of the occupation government, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the Minister of Security, Yoav Galant, were 7 months late.
In a statement, Hamas called on the attorney general to issue arrest orders “against all war criminals, including leaders, officers and soldiers of the occupation.”
The movement strongly denounced the attempts of the Attorney General “to equate the victim with the executioner by issuing arrest warrants against a number of resistance leaders”, demanding “the cancellation of all arrest warrants issued against leaders of the Palestinian resistance for violating UN charters and resolutions. For its part, the American site Axios estimated that “the measure taken by the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court would lead to an increase in the international isolation of Israel and would increase pressure on the administration of American President Joe Biden, so that “She is putting pressure on Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza.” On Monday, the ICC prosecutor requested the issuance of arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant, as well as against the leaders of the Hamas movement, notably Yehia Sinwar and Ismaël Hanieh.
Referring to Netanyahu and Gallant, the attorney general stressed that “the crimes against humanity included in the petitions were committed as part of a widespread and systematic attack against Palestinian civilians, and these war crimes are still being committed Today”. Previously, the Assembly of States Parties to the International Criminal Court expressed regret over attempts to undermine the independence of the Court in its investigation into the situation in occupied Palestine. The association said in a statement that some Recent statements regarding the Court’s investigation constitute a “threat of reprisals”, calling on all countries to respect the independence and impartiality of the Court.
This came after members of Congress from both the Democratic and Republican parties warned the International Criminal Court that any arrest warrants would be issued against Israeli officials, saying “it would face retaliation American”.
