Journalist Zahir Mehdaoui, publishing director of the daily Express-DZ, who died on Saturday afternoon, was buried this Monday late in the morning in the cemetery of his native village Igher El-Kebla, Ath Yemel, commune of Timezrit (30 km around the city of Béjaïa).
Zahir Mehdaoui left this world at the age of 55 on the bed of the Khéllil Amrane University Hospital in Béjaïa after having fought for several months against his illness which seriously worsened in the last two months.
He left behind a wife and four children (a boy and three girls). His funeral was filled with great emotion. They took place in front of his family members, relatives, friends, neighbors and many colleagues.
Hundreds of other people, including anonymous people, came to attend his funeral and accompany him to his final resting place. The deceased began his journalistic career in 1989 as a correspondent.
He worked in several titles of the national written press, among others, La Nouvelle République, l’Horizon and Le Quotidien d’Oran as head of the Béjaïa regional office.
The deceased joined the editorial staff of Quotidien d’Oran in Algiers in 2003. In 2017, he launched the online newspaper Express-DZ dedicated to general information before launching its paper version in 2021.
