A few days before the official announcement of the convening of the electoral body, there is excitement in political circles. The parties are now putting their cards on the table and showing their intentions. The majority have revealed their ambitions and objectives, preparing now for the big contest next September.
The latest announcement comes from the Islamist movement Ennahda which has just declared its support for the candidate of the Movement of the Society for Peace (MSP), Abdelali Hassani Chérif. An alliance which hardly surprised observers, as the points of convergence between the two groups are numerous.
In 2012, these two parties were part of an alliance with El Islah called the “Green Algeria Alliance” created during the legislative elections. This “moderate” Islamist bloc only obtained around sixty seats in parliament, crushed by the supremacy of the FLN and the RND.
This decision was taken following an extraordinary meeting of its advisory council, held on Friday. For Ennahda leaders, this is a carefully considered choice, after talks with the MSP and intense internal deliberations.
According to a party press release, there is an agreement in principle for close coordination between the two parties, with a view to the presidential election, encouraging citizens to “engage massively, effectively and responsibly in this national duty, and to gather around its candidate to work in the service of Algeria and the preservation of its stability as well as that of its institutions.
For his part, the president of the “El Bina” movement, Abdelkader Bengrina affirmed, from Oran, that his political party is working to contribute to the success of the next presidential election and to broaden popular participation. For Bengrina, it is necessary to build a national bloc making Algeria an economic power in the region by taking advantage of its geographical position and its African and Mediterranean depth.
Mr. Bengrina also affirmed that his movement believes in the support of the Algerian people for the candidacy of President Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune for a second term, “a choice that the country needs in this period,” he said. -he explained, adding “we will work with all our strength for its success in order to serve the country”.
Certainly wanting to respond to recent criticisms coming from the FLN, the boss of El Bina indicated that “the Madjlis Ech-choura of his formation took this decision, being convinced of the need to complete the construction of Algeria in a renewed appearance and the fact that President Tebboune is a child of the people, who is frank and sincere with his people, and because he knows perfectly the problems and expectations of citizens and works tirelessly to take care of them “. He also affirmed that his party never committed to issuing a collective statement in favor of Tebboune’s candidacy, thus rejecting the FLN’s accusations.
In this context, it should be noted that this alignment provoked a virulent reaction from the leader of the National Liberation Front, Abdelkrim Benmbarek. The latter reiterated, Saturday June 1, during a speech at the party headquarters in Algiers, the party’s commitment to playing a central role in the next presidential election, affirming the party’s desire to be the locomotive of the process. electoral. “We will be those who lead others and not the other way around,” he said. A clear and frank allusion and a reproach to Bengrina for wanting to go it alone in his anticipated plebiscite.
For the leader of the old party, it is necessary to restore the leadership of the FLN, stressing that the election will not be comparable to previous ones, highlighting his party’s commitment to fighting abstention.
Still in the wake of political controversies, the Front of Socialist Forces (FFS) reacted with a press release published this Sunday, in which it denies being involved in any way in an incident which caused the cancellation of an activity of the Workers’ Party (PT) in Tizi Ouzou.
Last Friday, the PT publicly denounced the opposition of two members of a political party (which it did not name) to the organization of a conference of its general secretary Louisa Hanoune, who is a presidential candidate , in a village in the Maatkas region, in Tizi Ouzou.
The FFS expressed its “astonishment” at what it describes as “non-innocent and misleading interpretations and insinuations”. Which, according to the FFS, reflects the “panic” of some following its decision to participate in the next presidential elections.
While denying any link “nearly or remotely” with the subject in question, the FFS recalls that the party does not have the prerogative to issue authorizations for the holding of public political activities.
Furthermore, the president of the Rally for Culture and Democracy (RCD), Atmane Mazouz, declared on Saturday in Sétif that his political formation will be determined “by the end of June” in relation to the vote. During a debate meeting with his party activists, Mr. Mazouz clarified that the RCD’s position regarding this election will be “known at the end of June or, at the latest, July 5.”
He added, in this regard, that “consultations and discussions will be carried out at the level of party structures in order to reach a final decision on this issue”.
The president of the RCD also indicated that meetings will be organized with “the party base and citizens” in order to “clarify visions and perceptions concerning this electoral deadline”.
