Début de la campagne dans les wilayas du Nord – Le Jeune Indépendant


The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Youcef Chorfa, kicked off, this Tuesday, the combine harvest campaign for the 2023-2024 season in the wilayas of the north of the country. This operation took place from the wilaya of Bouira, where he went for a working and inspection visit, according to a press release from the ministry.

During this visit, the minister also laid the first stone for the construction of six local centers for grain storage in the wilaya of Bouira. These local centers are part of the national program to strengthen cereal storage capacities at the national level (52 wilayas).

This program provides for the creation of 350 local centers with a total capacity of 1.75 million tonnes of cereals, as well as 30 strategic storage silos with a total capacity of 3 million tonnes. In addition to the ongoing construction of 16 other storage silos, with a capacity of 250 thousand tonnes.

In addition to visiting agricultural investments in the wilaya, the minister visited one of the agricultural production units (former pilot farm) which has been oriented towards the development of strategic crops, in accordance with the new directions of the agricultural sector. In application of the decisions of the Council of Ministers of February 18, 2024.

The pilot farms were restructured to become public agricultural production units specializing in the production and development of strategic sectors (legumes, seed multiplication, oilseed crops, resistant trees).

In this context, the Agricultural Products Development Group (GVAPRO) was restructured to become an economic public joint stock company responsible for the development of strategic agricultural crops.
