Invited by Algerian Radio as part of the “Editorial Guest” program, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Hydraulics, Omar Bougaroua declared, yesterday Tuesday on the airwaves of Channel II, that the situation water supply of the country is reassuring, that the availability of drinking water during this summer will be permanent and normal and that the filling rate of the 81 dams in the country is at the level of 40%, while mentioning the major water projects initiated by the Head of State who, according to the host of Channel III, will be the true guarantor of the country’s water security.
Speaking yesterday Tuesday on the airwaves of Channel III, Omar Bougaroua, immediately informed listeners as well as his hosts on Algerian Radio that “like the countries of the Mediterranean basin, Algeria is experiencing a water deficit situation,” he said. However, he mentions, the water situation is under control and does not pose any concerns for this summer because, explains Omar Bougaroua, “the reserves amassed this year thanks to appreciable rainfall will ensure a stable supply of drinking water throughout the summer season,” assures and reassures the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Hydraulics.
Developing the country’s water situation better, the speaker in the program “Editorial Guest” of Channel III of Algerian Radio, the number two of the Ministry of Hydraulics revealed that “the national filling rate dams this year recorded an improvement compared to the previous year. The filling rate of the 81 dams this year is 39%, an improvement of 4% compared to last year, he explains.
According to statistics revealed by the Ministry of Hydraulics, affirmed Omar Bougaroua, “the dams in the east of the country recorded the highest rate, with more than 67%, while those in the Center are at 28%. As for the western part of the country, the volumes stored in the region do not exceed 19% of the storage capacity,” he specifies on Channel III.
On the other hand, and regarding the State strategy to contain this rather worrying situation on the availability of drinking water and achieve the realization of water security, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Hydraulics revealed the existence of major projects “which will guarantee our water security”, he reassures.
“Large water transfer projects will allow the use of unconventional water and the seawater desalination project will guarantee water security to the country,” he mentioned.
Further explaining the aspect of seawater desalination, Omar Bougaroua affirmed that “the project initiated by the President of the Republic will increase the share of this resource from 20 to 40% in national consumption and will cover more than 17 wilayas of the “inside the country”, concludes the SG of the Ministry of Hydraulics, Omar Bougaroua.
