The Director General of the Algiers Regional Agency of the National Social Insurance Fund for Salaried Workers (CNAS National Social Security Fund), Abdelhak Bouguettouf, indicated that prescriptions for psychiatric medications are subject to compulsory control, with the aim of combating the phenomenon of psychotropic drug consumption, particularly by young people.
The official, who was speaking on the sidelines of an awareness day on the fight and prevention of addictions, focused on raising awareness to make citizens aware of the dimensions of this phenomenon. To this end, he specified that the CNAS, through this awareness day, aims to make public opinion aware of the dangers of addiction to drugs and psychotropic substances and the imperative to fight against this phenomenon. , and this by combining the efforts of all stakeholders.
He added that the CNAS has taken several measures to preserve the mental and physical health of citizens, including the implementation of several awareness campaigns on the risks linked to the abusive use of psychotropic medications.
To put an end to this phenomenon, explained Mr. Bouguettouf, the fund first decided to subject drugs that treat neurological diseases to special reimbursement conditions, with the obligation to pass all the prescriptions concerned to medical control. The prescription of these medications can only be carried out by doctors specializing in psychiatry. It cannot be served by the pharmacist without the agreement of a CNAS doctor.
This awareness day is part of the campaign which was launched under the slogan “Social security supports you against the dangers of drugs”, at the level of the agencies and structures of the National Social Insurance Fund for Salaried Workers (CNAS). ) across the national territory, as part of awareness-raising operations on the prevention of the scourge of drugs and its negative effects.
In addition, this awareness day constitutes an opportunity to open dialogue with different health professionals, in particular doctors and pharmacists, but also with numerous civil society organizations, in order to strengthen coordination between all stakeholders and protect society from this scourge.
Stressing that this campaign started on March 7 and will continue until December 31, Mr. Bouguettouf indicated that the various awareness days have also been organized, whether in universities or training centers, in the aims to warn all categories of citizens and all segments of society against the misuse of psychiatric medications.
