The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, participated, this Wednesday in Seoul (South Korea), in the second part of the work of the Africa-Korea Summit relating to the development of economic cooperation, and this, as part of the working visit that the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, tasked him with carrying out. This was stated in a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On the sidelines of this Summit, Mr. Attaf “spoke with his counterpart from the Republic of Korea, Mr. Cho Tae-yul, with whom he reviewed the cooperative relations between the two countries in their various aspects and dimensions”, it is specified from the same source.
During the meeting, “the emphasis was placed in particular on the promising prospects for the development of bilateral relations, especially since Algeria is the only African country to maintain a bilateral strategic partnership with the Republic of Korea”, according to the same document.
Regarding the political dimension of Algerian-Korean relations, the two ministers “welcomed the level of bilateral coordination, particularly within the framework of the mandates of the two countries as non-permanent members of the Security Council,” adds the same source.
The two parties also “exchanged views on the latest developments related to the incessant Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, in light of the proposals currently being negotiated to stop this aggression and address the deplorable humanitarian situation in Gaza.”
Attaf also paid a courtesy visit to the former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, “during which he paid tribute to his rich career and the valuable contributions he made during his mandate at the head of the UN organization serving the objectives of peace, security and development in the world and on the African continent in particular.
On this occasion, Mr. Ban Ki-moon “remembered with gratitude the great support that Algeria gave him during his mandate as Secretary-General of the United Nations”, welcoming “the constructive role that Algeria plays today today from its seat on the Security Council in favor of promoting the purposes and principles of the United Nations.
