The Minister of Communication, Mohamed Laâgab highlighted, the day before yesterday Tuesday in Algiers, the importance of training journalists in economic fields, requiring a certain level of precision, mastery, understanding and popularization of concepts .
Chairing the opening of a training session organized by the ministry under the theme: “Economic journalism and data analysis”, moderated by Mr. Hatem Ghandir, head of the economic section at the Qatari channel “Al Jazeera”,
Mr. Laâgab highlighted the importance of training journalists in the economic field with a view to improving the processing, by the national media, of data emanating from local and international bodies and institutions.
The minister also indicated that the media often published economic figures without treatment, noting the need to popularize the concepts for the readership, hence the imperative, he said, to have a perfect mastery of the theme covered. .
After specifying that the economic press differed from other forms of journalism in terms of its mode of treatment of themes, Mr. Laâgab deplored the “failure” of the Algerian press “in the treatment of economic data”.
In this regard, the minister praised Mr. Ghandir’s experience in the field of economic journalism and the contribution that he will not fail to pass on to the journalists participating in this training session, who represent the national public and private media. .
For his part, Mr. Ghandir presented, during this session which brought together 60 journalists, the techniques for simplifying financial and business reports, as well as the difference between general information and economic information, particularly in terms of processing numbers. The massive flow of data across the world has impacted journalistic practice in the sense that it now consists of presenting all elements of information concisely and in one go, unlike the old method where elements information was presented gradually.
