The president of the Independent National Authority for Elections (ANIE), Mohamed Charfi, announced, yesterday Sunday in Algiers, the end of a “real transfer window”, practiced by subscription in the past during which people sell and buy support. “The subscription forms now have a serial number specific to each candidate who comes to withdraw their quota,” he indicated, noting that the body he heads has opted for granting 70,000 files, instead of 50,000 required by law, which can be useful if needed by suitors.
Speaking on the airwaves of Channel III of the National Radio where he was the guest of the program ”Invité de la Rédaction”, Mohamed Charfi assured that applicants wishing to stand as candidates for the anticipated presidential election of September 7 next can, already, contact the Independent National Electoral Authority (Anie) to collect the subscription forms and support signature forms required by law to validate the candidacy.
“The new thing is that Anie has made a new form available to candidates for the 2024 presidential candidacy,” he said. Noting that the fundamental objective of this initiative is for voters to maintain their confidence in the credibility of the electoral process and participate in the victory of their favorites.
This is, continued Mohamed Charfi, a new form which makes the issue of haggling over signatures impossible.
“These subscription forms are monitored on a daily basis using an electronic platform so that these forms are not used by other applicants,” he said.
Adding that this is one of the security guarantees of the electoral operation in terms of subscriptions and authentication of signatories. “From now on, it is very difficult to do as before, either for individual profit or to harm the credibility of an election,” he observed.
This credibility, further indicated the guest of Channel III of the National Radio, is also ensured by the interest in the sanitation of the electoral file, digitized in 2019, considering that the exceptional revision (from June 12 to 27, editor’s note) is another anti-fraud guarantor.
Occasionally encouraging young people to register on the electoral lists and have their voter card. “These are the two segments of securing a credible and democratic election,” said Mohamed Charfi, recalling that this aspect is taken care of, as part of a particular strategy that Anie has put in place since 2022 already, via a planned perspective. “It goes to democratic security and from there to national security,” he said. Recalling that Algeria was inspired by other experiences to ensure our national security by introducing the notion of democratic security in the 2020 Constitution.
The day before yesterday, Saturday, the president of Anie assured that applicants for the candidacy, or their representatives, can present themselves, from today (Saturday, editor’s note), directly to the headquarters of Anie, provided with supporting documents (letter of intention to apply addressed to the president of Anie, receipt for deposit of the deposit, recent photo, copy of the national identity card, and an authorization for the benefit of the candidate’s representative) or make an appointment, to collect the individual signature subscription forms via the Anie platform at the following link: https://rdv2024.ina-elections.dz.
