An industry to protect.
The new economic policy undertaken by Algeria has given birth to an industry that must be supported and protected. This was stated by the DG of strategic monitoring at the Ministry of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Bachir Kechroud, who reiterated the State’s commitment to supporting emerging industries.
“The State is mobilizing all its efforts to create favorable conditions so that the various actors can operate in a favorable environment,” he said this Monday in his statement on national radio. He also highlighted the importance of multi-sectoral cooperation, particularly in key areas, namely finance, trade, industry and agriculture, to “bring together the favorable conditions for a real revival of our economy “.
As for the commercial public sector, he indicated that it is thanks to the financing of the development plans of public enterprises, and how to increase their profitability, that “certain public enterprises have been able to improve their performance through the investments which have been engaged.”
Others found themselves, according to him, faced with the change in the market during the execution of these development plans and the acquisition of the investment, hence the need for rapid rehabilitation to be able to return to the expected performance. According to him, public and private companies cannot be classified at the same level “as to the performances to be achieved given that the public company is a tool at the service of the State for the implementation of public policy”.
The same official also affirmed that better economic organization and synergy between the public and private sectors are necessary to stimulate competitiveness and industrial production, especially in regions outside the capital.
Concerning the leather and textile sector, Mr. Kechroud affirmed that a special program has been put in place for this purpose, particularly during the Eid-el-Adha period, for the exploitation of the raw material for leather industry, adding that the State has been trying in recent years to organize the sector and boost activity in this direction, with the aim of building up a stock of raw materials. “We are trying to carry out this action over a longer period, in cooperation with operators operating in the slaughtering sector, to continually supply the industry and ensure national production through the integration of the agricultural sector with that of the industry,” he said.
In addition, the same manager explained the importance of strategic monitoring, a component of economic intelligence. According to him, strategic monitoring allows companies to control their environment and act effectively.
