Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned of the emergence of a bloc system in Asia. A phenomenon which creates a threat for the countries of the region, Russia included, he declared, assuring that Moscow would react accordingly.
“We see what’s happening in Asia, right? The bloc system is being established,” Putin said at a press conference at Hanoi airport.
“NATO is already establishing itself there as a permanent place of residence. Of course, this poses a threat to all countries in the region, including the Russian Federation. We are obliged to respond to it and we will do so,” he continued to journalists.
Also questioned about Western supplies of long-range weapons to kyiv’s forces, during this sequence, the Russian president reiterated his warning to the West. “Those who supply these weapons declare that they are not fighting, but I say, we reserve the right to strike other points in the world,” he warned.
“They deliver weapons to Ukraine and then say they don’t control anything and don’t know how they are used.
We can say the same thing: we can deliver weapons elsewhere and then say that we control nothing. Let them think about this theme!” continued the Russian president.
He warned on June 5 that the Russian response would be “symmetrical”, on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. “If someone considers it possible to deliver such missiles, why should we not have the right to deliver weapons of the same class to other regions of the world against sensitive targets?” he asked journalists.
Vladimir Putin also recalled that the objective of the offensive in the Kharkov region was to establish a buffer zone against Ukrainian strikes in Russia. “Six months ago, I said that if the shelling of our populated areas in the border regions continued, we would be forced to create a security zone on Ukrainian territory,” declared the Russian president, before add: “they continued these bombings and we did what we talked about.”
To this end, Vladimir Putin reiterated that the Russian army “does not aim to approach Kharkov”.
Asked about the state of preparedness of Russian forces in this area, in the event of a possible Ukrainian “counter-offensive”, the Russian president estimated that Kiev’s hard-line policy “will once again cost very dearly” to this one.
The Russian head of state also returned to the reactions that his visit to Pyongyang provoked, in particular through the signing of a mutual assistance treaty in the event of military aggression.
The South Korean president’s national security adviser, Chang Ho-jin, told reporters the day before yesterday that Seoul would “reconsider the issue of supplying weapons to Ukraine.”
“It would be a very serious mistake and I hope it does not happen,” replied the Russian president regarding this potential change of heart by Seoul on arms supplies to kyiv.
“If this is the case, then we will have to make an appropriate decision, which will probably not please the South Korean leadership,” he added.
The Russian president assured that the South Korean authorities had “no need to worry” about the agreement between Pyongyang and Moscow, because it only applies “in the event of aggression against one of the signatories “. And to insist: “There is no reason to be afraid of our cooperation in this area”.
It should be recalled that the Russian president announced during his visit last Tuesday and Wednesday to North Korea that the new partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang provided for “mutual assistance in the event of aggression”, describing it as “revolutionary” .
“The comprehensive partnership agreement signed today provides, among other things, for the provision of mutual assistance in the event of aggression against one of the parties to this agreement,” he said.
Vladimir Putin had notably denounced the supply by Washington and NATO members of high-precision long-range systems, F-16 planes and other weapons to strike Russian territory, calling them a “blatant violation” of their international obligations.
