Faced with the heat wave hitting the southern regions of the country, the public company Sonelgaz has taken proactive measures to guarantee a continuous and reliable supply of electricity. To do this, a delegation of senior executives from the company was dispatched to several wilayas in the South to monitor and evaluate the situation, in accordance with the strict instructions of Mourad Ajdal, CEO of Sonelgaz. This was indicated last Thursday in a press release from the company.
This initiative is part of the public company’s commitment to ensuring the supply of electrical energy in optimal conditions during the summer period, marked by peaks in consumption inherent to sharp increases in temperatures.
The delegation, made up of several general directors of Sonelgaz’s production and distribution subsidiaries, visited the wilayas of Bordj Badji Mokhtar and El-Oued, more precisely in the Dabdab region. The main objective of this visit was to inspect the existing facilities, evaluate the company’s performance in energy supply and take the necessary preventive measures to avoid any interruption of service during the summer period , marked by periods of severe heatwaves, leading to record use of energy-intensive air conditioners
During their visit, members of the delegation met representatives of the local authorities of the wilaya of Bordj Badji Mokhtar as well as representatives of civil society. These meetings made it possible to listen to and understand residents’ concerns regarding electricity supply. Sonelgaz executives assured that these concerns would be addressed urgently to ensure a rapid and effective response to citizens’ needs.
Furthermore, as part of preparations for summer 2024, Sonelgaz has undertaken several projects to strengthen the electricity transmission and distribution network. The Sonelgaz-Transport d’electricity subsidiary has commissioned numerous energy projects aimed at improving the capacity and reliability of the electricity network.
These projects include the installation of new transmission lines and the updating of existing infrastructure to ensure quality service and continuity of supply. Likewise, the subsidiary Sonelgaz Distribution has also completed an ambitious plan aimed at strengthening medium voltage installations. This plan includes the construction of 687 electrical transformers and the construction of 2,054 kilometers of electricity distribution network. This infrastructure is crucial to improving distribution capacity and reducing the risk of power outages, particularly during periods of high demand.
These efforts are part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at modernizing the energy infrastructure at the national level and preparing the electricity network to face future challenges and thus guarantee a stable and reliable supply of electricity, essential for economic development and well-being of citizens.
