Fires on the heights of Béjaïa
It was in the large conference room of the Institute of Training and Specialization in Agronomy of Blida that the work of the study and awareness day took place on the contribution of the Federation of Algerian Hunters in the fight against forest fires. This day was organized with the aim of raising awareness about the preservation of forest and animal resources and the fight against illegal hunting.
This initiative is the work of the Blida Hunters Federation, in collaboration with several actors including Forest Conservation, Civil Protection and the National Gendarmerie. “This work aims to raise awareness among all our member hunters to become more and more effectively involved in the fight against forest fires,” declared Lotfi Morsli, president of the Blida Hunters’ Federation.
This day saw the participation of more than 40 hunter federations, coming from the four corners of the country to discuss with all the stakeholders concerned all the hunting modalities, in order to establish a road map aimed at preserving the forest with all its data.
For his part, Amar Zahi, president of the Federation of Algerian Hunters, stressed that “ the hunter is the first protector of the forest “. He continued that hunters are called upon to be fully and effectively involved in the protection of fauna and flora resources, by contributing to raising citizens’ awareness of the need to avoid barbecues in forest areas as well as the importance of biodiversity and reforestation, citing the green dam project as an example.
The National Federation of Hunters, which has nearly 50,000 members, works to provide training to hunters to make them aware of the importance of preserving flora and fauna, particularly protected and endangered species (birds, reptiles and other animals), noted the same manager.
In this regard, he noted the thousands of hunters who have benefited, since 2019, from training in game protection, hunting methods, hunter ethics and the fight against poaching, at the end of which 35,000 people have obtained their hunting licenses, and will thus be invited to respect all hunting periods, the first of which runs from 1er January until the end of March for hunting waterfowl and other birds. The second hunting period will last from July 15 to August 8, and finally the third will take place from September 15 to the end of October.
Concerning poaching, the president of the federation declared to the press that this type of hunting is “a crime, it must be fought by all means”. He added: “Through the media, I appeal to the Ministers of the Interior and that of Agriculture to proceed with the implementation of a decree prohibiting poaching and the installation of laws severely punishing this act. »
