L’importance des retenues collinaires – La Nouvelle République Algérie

The importance of hill reservoirs

The mobilization of local water resources, which does not require large transfers, seems to be favored in the design of dams under construction or which are currently put into service. In Bouzina (90 km from Batna), the dam which was commissioned at the beginning of this month, in the presence of the Ministers of Hydraulics, Taha Derbal, and of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun, accompanied by the wali, Mohamed Benmalek, is intended for the supply of drinking water to the inhabitants of the communes of Bouzina, Menaâ, Tigharghar and Larbaa as well as the irrigation of more than 500 hectares of tree orchards and agricultural land. This is enough to give it major importance for the region.

The Minister of Hydraulics insisted, on the occasion, on the need to promote such works which are essential to the development and daily life of citizens. Taha Derbal called on executives in the sector to make more efforts to improve performance, speed up the execution of projects and monitor construction sites in order to improve the public service provided in this area, whether it concerns drinking water, agricultural irrigation or sanitation. The minister insisted on the need to carry out these projects in compliance with the technical standards in force, and recalled that projects in the hydraulic sector have been carried out in recent years within the contractual deadlines set. It is not a question of building for the sake of building and multiplying additional costs and technical errors without regard for public financial resources. Thus, in the wilaya of M’sila, on dam projects, priorities are defined such as the M’sif Dam. The mobilization of all water resources requires paying particular attention to hill reservoirs, particularly those which are not exploited and whose capacities are not negligible to meet local irrigation needs.

The rehabilitation of these hill reservoirs and the construction of new ones would make a considerable contribution to the lack of water in certain rural areas. Especially since their contribution to aquaculture helps increase overall production. Thus, in Djelfa, the aquaculture activity in this wilaya has 168 exploitable agricultural irrigation basins in the field of aquaculture, in addition to five projects carried out in aquaculture having been seeded with 69,000 tilapia fry. In the commune of Ain Ouessara, an aquaculture farm is integrated into agriculture. Overall, farm owners are encouraged to adhere to the aquaculture approach and its intensification. THERE
