The meeting of the Council of Ministers, chaired yesterday Sunday by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, addressed the campaign
combine harvest for the 2024 season. From the inventory (1.2 billion dollars to the Public Treasury, following the abundant production of durum wheat achieved during this campaign, which brought Algeria closer to the ‘total self-sufficiency), the President ordered to set a strategic objective to achieve the expansion of cultivated areas in our Great South to 500,000 hectares, in particular with the investment of Qatar on 117,000 hectares and Italy on 36,000 hectares, in plus national investments of 120.00 hectares.
The President stressed that total self-sufficiency has become within reach with our production of 80% of durum wheat, considering that this is a tradition of Algerian production and consumption, and that it is of a product in small quantities on the world market compared to soft wheat. The President ordered the production of corn grains, and prohibited the harvesting of this crop as a green plant, at the stage of incomplete maturity.
The President of the Republic instructed the Minister of Agriculture to involve farmers in raising awareness to improve the yield per hectare, which in the South should not be less than 55 quintals, because these areas have enormous potential , particularly in water and electricity.
After the presentation of the Government’s activities by the Prime Minister over the last two weeks, and the interventions of the ministers, the President gave his instructions. The Council of Ministers also examined a draft law relating to the protection of people with specific needs and presentations, in particular on the project to interconnect the electricity networks of the North and South of the country, the monitoring of the creation of centers grain storage and the measures taken for the modernization of electronic and mobile payment systems, and a project to establish a university hospital center in the wilaya of Tizi Ouzou.
Concerning this last point, the Council of Ministers agreed to conclude a mutual agreement between the Cosider Group and the Ministry of Housing, represented by the Directorate of Equipment of the wilaya of Tizi Ouzou, to start the work after completing all the studies, to implement this project for the benefit of the inhabitants of this wilaya, with a capacity of 500 beds.
Concerning the project to connect the electricity networks between the North and the South of the country, the President ordered an in-depth study of this project, taking into account the following elements: the implementation must be progressive and depending on the priorities, study the possibility to strengthen the electricity network of Béchar, Adrar, Ouargla and In Salah, while awaiting its connection to the North, taking into account the growing needs of our southern regions in electricity, particularly in the summer period, in addition to the expansion of economic activities in our Greater South.
The President of the Republic ordered the Minister of Energy to adopt the technique of laying electrical lines underground rather than on poles, particularly in cities, in order to strengthen security against natural hazards and to avoid losses. He also ordered that this project include an electricity supply plan for the railway lines, which should be implemented through different projects in our Great South, as well as agricultural investments.
The Council of Ministers approved a bill relating to the protection and promotion of people with special needs.
The Council of Ministers followed a presentation of the progress report on the progress of the digitalization process, in addition to the content of a joint presentation on the measures taken to modernize electronic and mobile payment systems. The President of the Republic ordered the removal of administrative obstacles that prevent the employment of young people in structures and equipment affiliated with the youth and sports sectors of the southern wilayas, depending on the capacities and funds available.
The President ordered the Government to launch national operations to connect dams, particularly the largest ones, according to a time-bound plan.
