Consumer Protection

The Ministry of Trade and Export Promotion worked to organize the activity of consumer protection associations, through the revision of Law 09-03 relating to consumer protection and the repression of fraud with the aim of improve the quality of services provided to citizens. This was made known the day before yesterday by the first head of the sector, Tayeb Zitouni, in a statement on the sidelines of the work of the national forum of consumer protection associations, organized by the National Observatory of Civil Society (Onsc ), in partnership with the ministry.

The minister indicated that “faced with any amalgamation of concepts and prerogatives and a significant number of associations active in the commercial sector and evoking consumer protection, we plan to ensure their organization and supervision, by drawing up guidelines for them. clear objectives, so that each association intervenes in a very specific area. To this end, he stressed that consumer protection encompasses several areas, which requires specialization in the organization of consumer protection associations, thus specifying that an association cannot cover all consumer operations on its own. . In his speech at the opening of the forum organized under the theme: “Consumer protection and promotion of the national economy”, Mr. Zitouni underlined the importance of establishing “creative” working frameworks favorable to development of the ethics charter for consumer protection associations.

He added that “the protection of consumer dignity is essentially based on trust between producers and consumers, in addition to cooperation and coordination between the parties concerned, far from any overbidding, exploitation or blackmail. and this, in order not to deviate from the process of defending consumer rights governed by legal and legislative frameworks providing effective mechanisms for real consumer protection, responding to developments and changes in the global economy. For his part, the president of the National Observatory of Civil Society, Nourredine Benbraham announced a draft charter of ethics for consumer protection associations, aimed at coordinating the efforts of associations, promoting their role, but also to encourage the exchange of expertise and to adopt associative governance reconciling autonomy and responsibility, as highlighted in a presentation presented on this occasion.
