Speaking at the opening of the 55th edition of the Algiers international fair, the Minister of Trade and Export Promotion,
Mr. Tayeb Zitouni indicated that the first results of the national export promotion policy within the framework of the 2020-2030 vision are very positive.
Through these results, we can see that several industrial sectors had obtained very positive results in production and export with forecasts that Algerian exports excluding hydrocarbons reach 29 billion USD. Mr. Tayeb Zitouni, spoke during a presentation he made to the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who chaired, at the Palais des Expositions (Pins-Maritimes of Algiers), the opening ceremony of the 55th edition of the Algiers International Fair (FIA).
Presenting his presentation, Mr. Zitouni noted that after Algeria’s non-hydrocarbon exports did not exceed 3.8 billion USD before the year 2020, they are now recording increasing figures having reached 7 billion USD in 2024. , with an annual growth rate equivalent to 45%, while forecasting that they will reach 29 billion USD by 2030, a growth rate equivalent to 326.6%.
The Minister also reviewed the results obtained in the export of industrial products, which recorded their highest value in 2022, with USD 6.2 billion (+ 55%), as well as agricultural products and agro-food industries, whose exports recorded the highest value in 2023, with USD 397 million.
(+ 11%), while exports of fishery production recorded their highest value in 2023, with 34.36 million USD (+ 66%).
Taking stock of certain production sectors during the period 2020-2023, the minister recalled that Algeria, which imported the equivalent of 700 million USD of agro-food products (pasta, drinks, biscuits and sauces) managed to achieve self-sufficiency and export USD 49 million of these products in 2023.
As for construction materials (cement, concrete bars and others) whose import bill amounted to one (1) billion USD, Algeria was able to achieve self-sufficiency and export 1.3 billion USD in 2023, as for detergents, Algeria went from importing more than 119 million USD to self-sufficiency and export, the same for the aesthetic products sector which went from importing more than 296 million USD in exports of 3.8 million USD, according to figures put forward by Mr. Zitouni.
The minister noted that the measures taken as part of the rationalization of imports and the promotion of exports “gave rise to the emergence of new industries allowing several importers to convert into producers and exporters in these sectors” .
