L’Algérie exige des sanctions contre l’entité sioniste – Le Jeune Indépendant

Algeria has asked the Security Council for sanctions against the Zionist entity responsible for crimes in the Palestinian Gaza Strip. During a session this Tuesday devoted by the UN body to the dramatic situation in this enclave, Algeria’s permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Amar Bendjama, demanded sanctions against the Zionist entity because it does not respect the resolutions of the UN Security Council, in particular the very last one, proposed by its ally and protector, the United States.

“We demand that sanctions be taken against the occupying power for failure to comply with Security Council resolutions, including resolution 23-34” on the colonies, the Algerian diplomat said. He also described the attitude of the Zionist settlers as terrorism that “has reached an unprecedented level.”

For Mr. Bendjama, there is a policy of double standards by international authorities in the approach to the Palestinian question. “If the violations committed over the past nine months in Gaza had taken place elsewhere, sanctions would have already been decided,” he was indignant, referring in passing to the recent report of the independent commission of inquiry on the Palestinian territories, which clearly reports “war crimes and crimes against humanity, perpetrated by the Zionist entity”.

According to Mr. Bendjama, the sinister designs of the Zionist entity in the Gaza Strip are clear. “The occupying power aims to destroy Gaza and displace its population,” he explained.

Regarding the situation prevailing in the region, the Algerian diplomat drew attention to the crimes committed by the hordes of Zionist settlers in the West Bank. Their criminal acts against Palestinian civilians took place with the support and protection of Zionist security forces. “Under international humanitarian law, these forces have an obligation to protect Palestinian civilians. We demand accountability from the perpetrators of these acts of terror,” he demanded. On this register, Amar Bendjama called for the questioning, on acts of terrorism, of Zionist settlers regarding their practices towards the Palestinians.

In his intervention, the Algerian representative to the UN denounced the humanitarian situation in this battered enclave and warned of its consequences. “People are starving in Gaza. It’s a reality. Whoever caused this is known, he argued, pointing the finger at the Zionist entity that is colonizing. He must answer for all this destruction,” Mr. Bendjama underlined.

This humanitarian situation has seriously deteriorated due to the policies of Tel Aviv, which continues to bomb Gaza and all other populous neighborhoods, while preventing the delivery of humanitarian aid (food and medicine) to the refugee populations. “What is happening in Palestine, particularly in Gaza, is a prelude to a humanitarian catastrophe whose consequences could affect the entire Middle East,” warned the diplomat.

At the end of his speech, Mr. Bendjama affirmed that no one will be able to drive the Palestinians from their land. “Those who believe they can uproot the Palestinians and force them to leave their land are mistaken. The plans of the occupying power are doomed to failure (…) because the Palestinian people have learned from the Nakba. They will not abandon their land,” he proclaimed before the members of the UN Security Council.

He reaffirmed that “the Palestinians will continue their fight until they can fully enjoy their rights, including their right to self-determination, with the establishment of their state and with El-Quds as its capital.”
