WO Boufarik and TRA Draria will host the first round of the final of the Algerian Basketball Championship, Super-Division (men) for the 2023-2024 season on Friday (6:00 p.m.) at the Moussa Chiraf hall in Boufarik, with a clear advantage for the Boufarikois given their experience and their rich squad.
If the qualification of the Orange and Green was predictable given their very clear domination throughout the season and in the Play-off, during which they remained undefeated, that of TRA Draria surprised more than one, since the club suburbanite from the West of Algiers qualified for the final at the end of the last day of the Play-off at the expense of MC Algiers Mouloudia Club d’Alger, more commonly abbreviated to Mouloudia d’Alger or MCA, is an Algerian multi-sport club founded on August 7, 1921 and based in Algiers. Mouloudia Club d’Alger is the only Algerian team that managed to win the treble in 1976 and by winning the first continental trophy. and NB Staouéli, who finished with the same results.
The Draria players, who managed this decisive phase well, owe their qualification to the final to their victory against the main candidate, in this case MC Alger (61-59) at the end of an undecided match from start to finish in the part of the 4th and penultimate day of the play-offs. It is an unprecedented and unexpected final for the TRA Draria which stole the show from the usual entertainers of this end-of-year celebration, including the USM Alger crowned champion of Algeria in 2023, the MC Alger dominating during the last decade, or even NB Staouéli who faltered in the final stretch.
A double confrontation and a possible 3rd (nice) will be on the program for this final, the first round of which is scheduled for Friday (6:00 p.m.) at the Moussa-Chiraf hall in Boufarik. The second round will be played on Tuesday July 2 (5:00 p.m.) at the Staouéli venue, while the eventual finale will be played on neutral ground on Saturday July 6 in Rouiba.
For the WOB, which has regained momentum after several lean seasons, this final is an opportunity to win the championship title which has eluded it since 2002. Sofiane Bouhlaya’s men are determined to achieve the double this season, since they are also qualified for the final of the Algerian Cup, scheduled for July 12 in Jijel, against USM Alger.
