Tuesday, during the monthly session of the Security Council devoted to the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, the Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations, Amar Bendjama, affirmed that “anyone who believes they can uproot the Palestinians from their land by force is wrong.”Amar Bendjama stressed that no one could drive the Palestinians from their land. “The plans of the occupying power are doomed to failure (…) because the Palestinian people have learned from the Nakba. He will not abandon his land,” he proclaimed before members of the UN Security Council.
The Palestinians “will continue their fight until they can fully enjoy their rights, including their right to self-determination with the establishment of their state and with Al Quds as their capital,” he concluded. He added that “sanctions must be imposed on Israel for non-compliance with Council resolutions,” and called for “an end to aggression against Gaza and Zionist settler violence in the West Bank,” noting that the latest Security Council meeting came about 9 months after the Zionist entity – the occupying power – began “its unprecedented aggression against the defenseless Palestinian people.” He stressed that “there is no need to repeat the statistics, because the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, already catastrophic, has further deteriorated, and people are dying of hunger”, stressing that “it is a reality and the cause of this is known,” calling for the need to hold the Zionist entity accountable for these acts of devastation. Amar Bendjama observed that if the violations committed over the past nine months in Gaza had taken place elsewhere, sanctions would have already been decided. Algeria demanded sanctions against the Zionist entity for non-compliance with Security Council resolutions concerning the Palestinian question, while calling for an end to the massacres in Ghaza and the violence by Zionist settlers in the West Bank. He quoted the head of the commission of inquiry for the Palestinian territories, Navi Pillay, as saying that the commission concluded that “Israel is responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity, using starvation as a method of warfare.” , forcibly displacing Palestinians and treating them inhumanely.”
He added that the objective of the brutality of the Zionist occupation is clear, it is “another nakba (catastrophe)”, destroying the Gaza Strip and displacing its population, stressing that Algeria joins to the warning of the Secretary General of the United Nations against the danger of escalation in the region. Amar Bendjama warned that “the danger of an expansion of conflict in the Middle East is now real and we must avoid it, and that continued violence serves no interest.”
The Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations also explained that “the situation in the West Bank is no better than the disastrous situation in the Gaza Strip”, stressing that “the situation in the West Bank will further deteriorate if the occupation “does not end its policy of terrorism, expansion and colonization”, calling for the need for compliance by the Zionist entity with Resolution 2334, considering that Security Council resolutions are binding and must be implemented artwork.
Amar Bendjama also highlighted “the unprecedented level of terrorism by settlers who most of the time commit their violations under the protection of the occupying forces, while the latter are supposed, according to international law, to protect Palestinian civilians.” “We demand accountability from the perpetrators of these acts of terror,” he said. Zionist settlers are, moreover, responsible for provocative acts against Muslim places of worship, mainly the Al Aqsa mosque, “provoking tensions which risk leading to a new escalation”, he maintained. “We condemn these attacks which constitute provocations against holy sites and reaffirm that the entire area surrounding the Al Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship exclusively reserved for Muslims,” he added.
In this regard, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that dozens of Zionist settlers stormed the esplanade of the Al-Aqsa mosque on Wednesday, in the occupied city of El-Quds, under the protection of the Zionist occupation police.
