On the occasion of the launch of the final of the Algerian Mathematics Olympiad, yesterday, at the National Mathematics High School of Kouba, the Minister of National Education, Abdelhakim Belabed, expressed his satisfaction with the excellent level of the students participating in this competition as well as the increase in the success rate at the BEM this year.
Mr. Belabed specified that organized for the first time in Algeria, the Mathematics Olympiads will continue until July 4, with the participation of 321 students in the junior, cadet and senior categories. It should be remembered that qualifiers were organized in several wilayas, as a prelude to this Olympiad, with the participation of 141,000 students.
Belabed wanted to underline the support given to this competition by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, by congratulating the finalists present at the competition, believing that they embody the strong potential of Algerian students in this subject.
The minister also paid tribute to the results obtained for almost a year by students keen on mathematics at the level of international competitions, with a qualifying jump of 17 places at the world level and a ranking in second place on the podium at the Arab levels. and Africans.
In addition, the minister also expressed his satisfaction with the results of the BEM, posted last Thursday, estimating that the overall success rate, exam and passage, which reached 73.27%, an increase of 8.14% compared to last year, deserves to be praised and encouraged.
The minister also noted a significant reduction in attempted fraud in official end-of-cycle middle and secondary school exams, “thanks to the efforts of state institutions to preserve the integrity of national exams.”
Furthermore, presiding over the opening of the National Conference on preparations for the 2024/2025 school year, the Minister specified that the national conference, which will last three days, will make it possible to finalize the closing files for the current school year and to prepare for the next one.
He announced, during his opening speech, several new features for the next school year, including the provision of 1,700 primary schools with tactile boards, the reduction in subjects taught at the first level of national education, the increase in the volume time devoted to physical and sports education and artistic activities, as well as the number of students in preschool classes.
The minister also mentioned the generalisation of the teaching of English in primary education by introducing it in the fifth year of primary education, and the adoption of new specifications for private schools.
Belabed also announced the launch of the Algerian international virtual school project for children of the national community abroad, starting from the next school year.The minister indicated that this school will be launched with the aim of providing education to its children, according to the national education program.
He explained that this school will be launched across different countries of the world, in accordance with the directives of the President of the Republic, and that it will be equipped with everything necessary, just like Algerian schools.
