Clôture du Festival des traditions de Maâtkas – Le Jeune Indépendant

After four days of intense activities, the Maâtkas Traditions Festival, in its first edition, closed on Sunday.

This scientific and cultural event, held from the 27th to the 30th of this month, was organized by the Seddar-Ali Youth House, in collaboration with the Jeune Actif association, under the aegis of the youth and sports department. and the Office of Youth Establishments of the Wilaya of Tizi Ouzou (OEJWTO).

The craftsmen of this commune and those of the neighboring localities, about forty, have, on this occasion, exhibited different craft products and the related trades such as pottery, the Kabyle dress, jewelry, culinary art, traditional weaving, etc. By the term “pottery”, we mean all the articles made by hand with this clay material such as, among others, the oil or water jar, the jug, the couscoussier. The same goes for jewelry. It goes from the simple earring to the bracelet.

It is worth noting that the public honoured this event with its strong presence. In parallel with this exhibition, the programme also included a multitude of other activities in correlation with ancestral experiences.

Indeed, there was a simulation of a traditional wedding, a fashion show, traditional singing and epithalamia, modern songs and music, a screening of a documentary on pottery as well as conferences led by the essayist Ahcene Mariche and the historian Youcef Sahel.

Despite this success, the organizers intend to achieve a better score during the next edition. “For this first edition, we focused much more on the known activities of Maâtkas, but for future editions, the circle will expand, with wider participation from other regions of the wilaya and, why not, from all the country, declared the director of the Youth House Ali-Seddar.

“Our concern is to contribute to the preservation and promotion of everything that represents our ancestral heritage, whether material or immaterial,” he said last Thursday, during the opening ceremony, which took place in the presence of the head of the daïra, local elected officials, representatives of civil society and many other scientific and intellectual people. In short, the organizers and actors of this event have succeeded, in just four days, in bringing back to life the Algerian ancestral way of life to the public.
