La flotte aérienne en renfort

The air fleet as reinforcement

The forest, crop and palm fire fighting system implemented since June 1 includes aerial resources which were very effective last year in fighting fires, especially in places that are difficult to access or even inaccessible. These are colossal air resources that have been mobilized, including the rental of 12 “AIR TRACTOR” model planes distributed across the airports of Mostaganem, Chlef, Béjaïa, in addition to two B200 planes of the National People’s Army (ANP), 06 MI 26 helicopters of the ANP in addition to the helicopters of the Civil Protection Air Group to carry out survey, detection and extinction operations”, according to the indications given by the Civil Protection services which also recall that during this year, “5 regional detachments were created to support the mobile columns, set up in the wilayas of El Tarf, Sétif, Blida, Chlef and Sidi Belabbes, against 3 regional detachments last year”.

Very recently, the Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Regional Planning, Brahim Merad, put into service, in Mostaganem, the central air base for firefighting and medical evacuation. The air base was received at the end of 60 days of development work carried out by the company Tassili Airlines (a subsidiary of Sonatrach), at a runway located in the commune of Sayada, within the allotted time (June 15 currently). This base received aircraft intended for firefighting and a helicopter for medical evacuation dedicated to the wilayas of the West of the country. In a second phase of this project, the company operating this facility will create a training center equipped with modern simulation equipment, in particular after the reinforcement of the Tassili Airlines fleet by six Canadairs. Five firefighting aircraft were recently acquired, with a sixth expected in the coming weeks, in addition to the rental of seven Canadairs by the airline Tassili Airlines, involved in this strategy.

An agreement was reached at the end of January between the Oran Airports Management Company and Tassili Airlines, on the creation of an air base in Sayada for firefighting, medical evacuation and various other civil aviation activities. Last April, work was launched in this facility to complete the first phase of this project, for which Tassili Airlines has allocated a sum of 3 billion dinars of self-investment indicated above.
