Water security

Participants in a national symposium on “the impact of climate change on water security and agricultural development in Algeria” called on Saturday evening in Béchar for the creation of a National Water Security Council bringing together all stakeholders.
They also stressed, at the end of the work of this scientific meeting initiated by the Higher Council of Youth (CSJ), the need to continue efforts to ensure the sustainable management of water resources, the development of agriculture and the protection of the environment at all levels. The participants, including academics and specialists, also recommended the opening of branches of the National Seed Bank throughout the country, in addition to the organization of a general census of different varieties of plant species and insects.
They also stressed the need to promote organic farming, reduce the use of plant protection products and use environmentally friendly techniques and applications.
In addition, they advocated the opening of new specialties and higher education courses related to smart agriculture, in addition to the encouragement and promotion of start-ups in the agricultural sector.
