The official launch of the program to build 30 grain storage silos at the national level was kicked off by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Youcef Cherfa.
This is an ambitious program that aims to increase the country’s storage capacity to 9 million tons of cereals, according to the minister, especially since it will be accompanied by the creation of 350 local storage centers.
This operation was launched from the wilaya of Mascara where Youcef Cherfa was on a working and inspection visit, in the company of the Minister of Hydraulics, Taha Derbal. A visit during which the kick-off of the launch of the construction of a grain storage silo with a capacity of 1 million quintals in the said wilaya was also given.
On this occasion, Mr. Cherfa stressed that “the program for the construction of 30 grain storage silos was launched at the same time as the first project in this framework in the wilaya of Mascara”, adding that “these silos are built under the national plan for the development of strategic crops”.
He pointed out that “this plan is part of the program of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, concerning the construction of 30 silos and 350 local cereal storage centers, thus increasing cereal storage capacities to 9 million tons.”
In addition, he announced that the wilaya of Mascara has benefited from nine local grain storage centers with a capacity of 50,000 quintals for each center, the work of which will be launched in the coming days.
The same official stressed that “the wilaya of Mascara is the first on a national scale in terms of the progress rate of the general agricultural census operation, which currently exceeds 70%.”
He wished to salute “the efforts made by the agricultural sector in the company of the wilaya authorities in this area.”
The two ministers continued their inspection visit to the wilaya by visiting the projects for the desilting of the dam in the commune of Bouhanifia and the transfer of water from this infrastructure to the Fergoug dam (commune of Mohammadia).
The program of this visit also includes the inspection of the former pilot farm converted into a fruit tree production center and the inauguration of a farm for the production of laying hens with a capacity of 60,000 units per day, as well as the inspection of a 15,000 m3 water reservoir in the commune of Sig.
