As part of the festivities commemorating the 62nd anniversary of national independence, historical audiovisual content was provided to national and foreign media, with the aim of enriching the collective memory through the 7th art.
This event, organized by the Ministry of Mujahideen and Rights Holders in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication, took place on Tuesday evening at the Aurassi Hotel, in the presence of Mohamed Laagab, Minister of Communication, Laïd Rebiga, Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, and Soraya Mouloudji, Minister of Culture and Arts.
At the heart of this initiative is the presentation of six feature films, 44 documentaries and several documentary series.
“This is a valuable and rich historical material that national and foreign audiovisual media can exploit on appropriate occasions and according to their needs, whether general or thematic. The new information law delimits the nature of the television channels that must adapt to the new regulations. This material therefore supports this adaptation,” said Laagab.
He encouraged media companies to use these valuable resources to better illustrate and understand Algerian history.
For her part, Rebiga specified that “this cooperation embodies the efforts made by the government, in accordance with its action plan, to implement the program of the President of the Republic and his fifty-four commitments, in the field of memory and history.”
He added: “Preserving the memory of the National Revolution and its valiant martyrs is a strategic priority for the State, as it constitutes a fundamental pillar for strengthening national identity and social cohesion.”
“Our meeting today is of deep significance, as it is part of the commemoration of the 62nd anniversary of Independence, which is an occasion with multiple dimensions and meanings, symbolizing a bridge between history, the present and the future. This glorious anniversary reminds us of the sacrifices of the free ancestors who paid the most dearly to liberate the homeland,” he stressed.
According to the minister, “New Algeria enjoys this celebration of stability, serenity and prosperity. We honor the memory of our martyrs with respect and pride. This year, this date is more popular and inclusive, strengthening cohesion between the people and their institutions,” he said.
Rebiga also explained that “the ministry uses digital technologies and various activities to preserve and disseminate historical memory, including films, audiovisual works and cultural activities.”
He continued that “historical audiovisual documentation is a creative representation of historical facts and national symbols. The President has a strategic vision to promote our rich historical heritage through films and documentaries.”
The ministry thus offers “opportunities to young talents to create historical works, such as the documentary Cheikh Larbi Tebessi and the 3D animated film, El Sakia by Naoufel Klach,” he said.
Ilyes Nait Kaci, head of management of the National Mujahid Museum, stressed the vital importance of film production in documenting political, social and cultural events. He also highlighted the essential role of cinema in preserving the country’s memory.
To illustrate his point, Nait Kaci cited the example of directors such as Stevan Labudović, a Serbian photographer and cameraman for the Algerian Revolution’s maquis, and Lakhdar Hamina.
These filmmakers, through their works, have played a crucial role in preserving national memory for future generations.
The heads of national and foreign channels went on stage to receive a hard drive containing the various cinematographic works produced by Algeria, illustrating its history. This collection will allow them to broadcast these films and documentaries, thus offering the public an opportunity to discover Algerian history and culture through the prism of the country’s filmmakers.
