After a year of hard work, all candidates for the 2024 baccalaureate session are eagerly awaiting the official announcement of the results, which must take place before July 20.
The copy correction operation was completed yesterday, and the first trends are beginning to emerge. According to forecasts, the success rate will be “high” for this session, compared to last year, revealed the national education consultant, Mr. Kamel Nouari.
In the meantime, a fourth correction is being introduced, for the first time, for candidates whose baccalaureate grade and that of the school year will have a large gap, indicated Mr. Nouari, stressing that this measure aims to ensure fairness for all candidates.
Contacted by the Jeune Indépendant, the education consultant said that until Monday, the last day of the third correction, the operation was carried out according to the schedule set by the National Office of Examinations and Competitions (ONEC), and all the correction conditions were met in all 97 correction centers.
According to the first trends, candidates in the experimental sciences, arts, literature and philosophy streams obtained good grades. “All the indicators and information disclosed by the various centers indicate that the grades were good in all subjects and for all streams, particularly the experimental sciences, arts and philosophy stream,” said Mr. Nouari. He explains this state of affairs by the stability of the school year and the ease of the questions that were within the reach of the candidates.
“We expect the overall result to be up from the previous session, and the percentage of candidates receiving grades close to good to excellent has also increased,” he added.
For their part, the examiners revealed disparities, particularly in essential subjects such as mathematics, languages and philosophy. Candidates in the scientific streams were able to obtain grades ranging from good to acceptable in mathematics, while the grades for the literature and philosophy stream ranged from 1 to 5 out of 20.
Students in the foreign languages stream particularly distinguished themselves with their excellent results in all the main subjects, unlike candidates in the literature and philosophy stream who obtained catastrophic marks in mathematics.
It should be noted that the correction of copies of the baccalaureate exam has been subject since last year to a “modern evaluation” and a “new approach” in force in the best educational systems in the world, according to the Minister of National Education, Abdelhakim Belabed.
The aim is to correct the copies in an objective manner so that the rights of every candidate are guaranteed.
Thus, the National Office of Examinations and Competitions (ONEC) sent the standard correction and the marking scale for each subject. These served as a roadmap for the correcting teachers. This should ensure that each candidate receives a fair and complete assessment of his copy.
However, changes have been made to this marking scale. The heads of the correction centres have reportedly decided to subject the “marking scale” to partial adjustments in certain subjects and streams. The aim, they explained, would be to adapt the scale to the candidates’ answers, particularly those who gave answers inspired by courses removed from the school curriculum.
It should be noted that the operation of correcting the baccalaureate copies goes through two phases, i.e. two correctors. In the event of a difference of 3 points or more between the two marks, the copy will be subject to a third correction in order to opt for a mark close to the first two assessments according to the correction models and the pre-established scales. As much attention to detail as not to harm the candidate in a crucial test involving his future.
Once the three correction operations are completed, the marks will be sent to Onec, which will be responsible for the official posting of the results, scheduled before July 20, the day when the fate of more than 800,000 candidates will be known. A fourth correction has been introduced this year and will concern candidates whose baccalaureate mark is found to be large and that of the school year.
