Algeria and Poland aim to strengthen their cooperation, particularly in the energy sector.
Proof of this is the recent decision to set up an Algerian-Polish working group to define the terms of energy cooperation.
In this sense, the Polish embassy in Algiers stressed, in a statement to Jeune Indépendant, the great Algerian energy potential.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, who met with his Polish counterpart on June 28, announced the establishment of a joint working group responsible for defining the modalities of cooperation and partnership in the field of energy.
The reforms and progress recorded by Algeria in several areas, such as industry, agriculture, renewable energies, notably green hydrogen, are likely to pave the way for opportunities for cooperation and partnership between the two countries, the Minister of Foreign Affairs had pointed out.
Algeria’s great energy potential was praised by the Polish embassy in Algeria.
“We appreciate and take into consideration the potential of Algerian oil exports to Poland, and already punctual deliveries from Algeria to Poland were made in 2009,” the embassy said in response to the question of the Jeune Indépendant on the possibility for the two countries to take a new step of cooperation in the energy sector.
The importance of the visit of the Algerian Foreign Minister and his meeting with his Polish counterpart was highlighted by the Polish Embassy in Algiers, affirming that the two heads of diplomacy welcomed the strengthening of cooperation in the sectors of agriculture and energy.
“The two sides will work to establish working groups in areas of mutual interest, including a Polish-Algerian working group to define the modalities of energy cooperation,” it was specified.
It is worth highlighting the potential and status that Algeria occupies on the European energy scene, considered as a safe and reliable supplier of gas to Europe.
The country also plans to produce and, above all, supply Europe with 10% of its green hydrogen needs by 2040. And it is the “SoutH2 Corridor” that will transport the green hydrogen produced in Algeria to Italy and European countries.
Poland is therefore showing great interest in the implementation of Algeria’s roadmap for the development of green hydrogen.
“Poland is observing with interest the implementation of the Algerian strategy in this area and we support Algeria’s invitations to Polish operators to jointly develop hydrogen-related projects,” the embassy said.
Pointing out that Algeria is one of the world’s leading producers of natural gas, Poland says it is interested in contributing to the country’s economic diversification, particularly in the production of green hydrogen. The country’s strategy in this area, it is recalled, was presented at a meeting held in Algiers, devoted to the development of green hydrogen.
Stating that the visit of the Algerian Foreign Minister “confirmed the common desire to diversify bilateral cooperation”, the Polish Embassy in Algeria stressed the need to update bilateral agreements between the two countries, so as to adapt them to “modern conditions”.
