Algerian Djamel Sedjati won the 800 metres at the Paris Meeting on Sunday, setting a new national record for the distance with a time of 1:41.56.
Sedjati broke the old national record for the 800 meters (men), held by Taoufik Makhloufi (1:42.61) and established in 2016, during the Olympic Games in Rio (Brazil), during which he won the silver medal.
He won ahead of Kenyan Emmanuel Wanyoni (1:41.58) and Frenchman Gabriel Tual (1:41.61), confirming his good form, a few days before the start of the Paris Olympic Games (July 26-August 11, 2024).
Still in the context of the preparation for these Olympic Games, Djamel Sedjati, driven by coach Amar Benida, will be involved in the 800 meters of the Meeting of Monaco, scheduled for July 12 (at 7:23 p.m. Algerian time), for the ninth stage of the Diamond League.
The two other Algerian middle distance runners qualified for the 800 metres in the next Olympics, namely Slimane Moula and Mohamed Ali Gouaned, are also entering the final phase of their preparation before reaching Paris, but they have chosen to skip this Monaco stage of the Diamond League.
