The President of the Algerian Academy of Science and Technology (AAST), Prof. Mohamed Hichem Kara, announced the day before yesterday in Algiers, the opening of applications for membership in the Academy, for the benefit of Algerian researchers and scholars, from inside and outside Algeria. During an information day, held at the National Library of Algeria (BNA), in the presence of the Minister of the Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises, Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid, the President of the National Agency for Health Security (ANSS), Prof. Kamel Sanhadji, the Commissioner for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Noureddine Yassaa and the President of the Algerian Academy of the Arabic Language (AALA), Cherif Meribai, in addition to representatives of several official bodies and establishments, Mr. Kara announced that registration “will begin from Thursday, July 11 until September 10th” via the electronic site: www.aast.dz. This call for applications in its first edition aimed at the selection of 25 new members, comes after the completion by the Academy of all the stages and legal procedures necessary for its formation, after its introduction in the Constitution of the country as a consultative body, and after the recent adoption of its internal regulations and its administrative organization, indicated the speaker. And to add that “all these achievements were accomplished thanks to the orientations of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, having relaunched our recovery after a freeze of several years.”
He stated in this sense that “this recognition in favor of our establishment will contribute to the implementation of the program of the President of the Republic, for the realization of projects aimed at the diversification of the national economy, while taking into account scientific and technological developments, in addition to the promotion of innovation.” Recalling the basic principles and voting procedures within the AAST, the President of the Academy specified that “the application as a member of the AAST is systematic for the open position. The choice of the new member is made in accordance with a codified operation starting with the presentation before moving on to the debates and the vote.” Created in March 2015 by virtue of a presidential decree and placed with the President of the Republic, “the AAST is an independent reference body in the fields of science and technology composed of respectful Algerian personalities established in Algeria and abroad, as well as other personalities from abroad,” noted Mr. Kara. n
