Plus de 79 % de réussite au baccalauréat – Le Jeune Indépendant


The Ali Maâchi National Arts High School in Algiers recorded a notable success rate for the 2024 baccalaureate session, reaching 79.45%, indicated the Ministries of Culture and Arts and National Education.

A total of 146 candidates took the Baccalaureate of Arts for the first time in the history of the Algerian education system. The theater stream obtained the highest success rate with 94.29%, followed by plastic arts with 82.50%, cinema with 81.25% and finally music with 61.54%.

On this occasion, Soraya Mouloudji, Minister of Culture and Arts, congratulated all the winners of the 2024 baccalaureate, as well as the arts students of the national high school of arts for their success during this first edition of the baccalaureate for this specialized institution.

The graduates will be able to join specialized institutes according to their artistic orientations, with registrations scheduled from next September. The new graduates will have the opportunity to choose between the new Mohamed Lakhdar Hamina Higher Institute of Cinema which will open its doors this year in Koléa, in the wilaya of Tipaza, or the Higher Institute of Professions in the Performing Arts and Audiovisual (ISMAS), the National School of Fine Arts and the Mohamed Fawzi National Higher Institute of Music, all located in Algiers.

Regarding the new Mohamed Lakhdar Hamina National Institute of Cinema, Soraya Mouloudji revealed to the press last May that the institution would be ready to welcome students from the 2024-2025 academic year, initially offering 50 teaching places. The institute will accept 50 students in various specialties, with 30 places reserved for holders of the Bachelor of Arts, and the remaining 20 will be awarded to students selected by a national competition, the announcement of which will be made at a later date.

Furthermore, Mohamed Boukeras, in charge of managing the institute, told Le Jeune Indépendant that a recruitment competition for teachers will soon be opened by the National Higher Institute of Cinema in Koléa.

Dr. Boukeras specified that “the new students will begin with a first year of common core, where they will receive the fundamental bases of cinema sciences, including some practical aspects related to sound, image and screenplay.” He added that “after this year of common core, the students will continue two years of specialization, crowned by the obtaining of a license within the framework of the LMD system (License-Master-Doctorate).”

He stressed that “the common core educational program will include a set of sciences and knowledge, especially since students have already completed two years of studies in this field at the technical high school. Therefore, students will have a cinematographic base that will allow them to successfully begin their training at the Institute of Cinema.”

Boukeras also revealed that “the institute has many practical spaces, including an editing room, two sound studios, two image studios and a multimedia digital library.” And to explain that “teaching will be divided equally between theory (50%) and practice (50%).”

“The aim of the institute is to train students who are competent in practical aspects,” he said, expressing optimism about the abilities of the new students from the technical high school. “They already have a good scientific basis and have passed a practical exam at the baccalaureate, including the production of a theatrical scene or the shooting and editing of a film,” he concluded.

As a reminder, the executive decree establishing the National Higher Institute of Cinema, placed under the joint educational supervision of the Ministries of Culture and Higher Education, was published in the Official Journal in June 2023. Decree 23-191 specifies that the Higher Institute of Cinema is a “public administrative institution”, with legal personality and financial autonomy.”

Placed under the administrative supervision of the Minister of Culture, the Institute’s mission is to provide higher education in the field of cinema, to meet, as a priority, the needs of the culture and arts sector.

In this capacity, the Institute is responsible for providing higher education, particularly in image, video editing, screenwriting, scripting, the film industry and production management, in addition to “providing innovative equipment and teaching methods” to enable the “optimal” application of training programs.

The institute is administered by a steering committee, chaired by the representative of the minister responsible for culture, and includes members representing several ministries including National Education, Higher Education and Vocational Training and Education, in addition to representatives of schools and institutes of artistic education and training.

The institute is financed through a budget that includes state subsidies, subsidies granted by local authorities, in addition to the institute’s own revenues and all other resources linked to its activity, the decree details.
