Not just names. Icons. The invitations issued by the COA president to those who have made the Algerian sports movement proud, make their successors proud who are preparing to take part in the Paris Olympics. Moral support and an additional source of motivation for young people who hope to shine
Invitation to Algerian legends who have written history through different Olympics and occupy a beautiful place in the hearts of Algerians. Many of them, still alive fortunately, will be, decided the leaders of the Algerian Olympic Committee (COA), their guests of honor in the French capital on the occasion of the Olympic Games on the occasion of which some names promise us not to disappoint our hopes of medals.
All the national sports heroes will be or should be there to support them in making history and joining them in the legend.
In the press conference held on Wednesday, the president and head of the Algerian delegation to these games, Kheireddine Barbari confirmed the information that many champions whose discipline it is not useful to mention as their names alone are enough to recall their greatness, such as Noureddine Morceli, Hassiba Boulmerka, Soraya Hadda, Tawfik Makhloufi, Amar Beyakhlef, Mohamed Allalou, will be on the trip.
A Barbari who barely hid his emotion when he mentioned the name of the great boxer Mustapha Moussa from Oran, the first Algerian athlete to distinguish himself at the highest level of the noble art by winning a historic Olympic medal in Los Angeles (1984, in -84 kgs) just after that, still in bronze and in these same American lands, of his compatriot Mohamed Zaoui (-75 kgs) against a future terror of world boxing, Virgil Hill. A lot of emotions, since the child of El Bahia, victim a few months ago of a serious accident and currently still in his hospital bed, will unfortunately be missing.
Sedjati, Nemour, Imène Khelif, our three best chances for a podium or gold, why not, will have significant support to achieve their personal dreams and help Algerian sport, Algeria, to reintegrate the world elite and revive the great moments of the exploits achieved at different Olympic Games by other great names, such as the late star of Algerian boxing, Hocine Soltani, the most successful (bronze in Barcelona 92 then gold in Atlanta 96) before being found dead in mysterious and never-elucidated circumstances after his kidnapping in 2002.
Said Guerni, Mohamed Bahari, Saidi Sief or Hammad, current MJS, like all the other champions, must appreciate this gesture which we can only welcome.
