At least seven people drowned the day before yesterday, Sunday, and 888 others were rescued on different beaches in the country in the last 24 hours, announced yesterday Monday a press release from the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC). According to a count announced yesterday Monday by the DGPC, the total number of interventions carried out during the day of last Sunday at the beaches that are monitored by the rescuers and divers of the Civil Protection, reached 1,150 cases, at a rate of one intervention every 19 seconds, specified the DGPC.
Since the start of the 2024 summer season, the total number of victims drowning at sea has exceeded 60 deaths, the same source added.
On the other hand, five other victims of drowning were reported during the day last Saturday, including two young people aged 22, who died on two beaches authorized for swimming and three other children aged between 12 and 14 who died in the water reserves, this was specified in a press release from the DGPC.
Indeed, the beach surveillance system under the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC) carried out, last Saturday, 1,190 interventions to rescue 849 people from certain drowning, 239 people taken care of on the scene, 101 people evacuated to hospitals, deploring the death of two people by drowning at sea across the wilaya of Chlef and Mostaganem.
In Chlef, a 22-year-old man drowned in a rocky area where swimming is prohibited, in the commune and daira of Ténes, while in Mostaganem, a 22-year-old man drowned in a place called ”Bahara Gharb” where swimming is prohibited, in the commune of Ouled Boughanem, daira of Achacha. The two victims were evacuated to the morgues of local health centers by Civil Protection rescuers.
Note the death of three people by drowning in water reserves across the wilaya of Sétif and the wilaya of Tébessa.
For the wilaya of Sétif, these are two children aged 12 and 14 who drowned in a water dam, located in the commune of El Balagha, daira of Bir El Arche. For Tébessa, this is a 25-year-old man who drowned in a hill reservoir, located at the place called ”Douar El Maraghdia”, commune Bakria, daira of El Kouif, the victims were rescued and evacuated to the morgues of local health structures by the Civil Protection.
In addition, seven deaths and 283 injuries were recorded, the day before yesterday Sunday, through 201 traffic accidents that occurred on the country’s road networks. Among these road accidents, eighteen passengers of a coach were injured on the night of Sunday to Monday, during a bus overturn that occurred in the wilaya of Illizi.
According to the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC), a passenger bus, operating the Ouargla-Djanet line, overturned on the national road number 03, causing human and material damage. While ten occupants of the bus, victims of this road accident aged between 7 and 52, were treated on site by Civil Protection rescuers, the eight other injured, some in critical condition, were evacuated to the local hospital to receive more intensive care.
Following this road tragedy, an investigation was launched by the territorially competent services to determine the circumstances of this incident.
