“Algeria is a friendly country and a strategic partner of Russia”

Speaking to the press at the end of the audience granted to him by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the President of the Duma of the Russian Federation, Mr. Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodine, indicated that Algeria was a “friendly country” and a “strategic partner” of Russia, which is working to raise relations between the two countries to higher levels.
The Duma Speaker added: “We have convergent positions with Algeria on various international and regional issues. We consider Algeria as a friendly country and a strategic partner and we are keen to raise our relations to higher levels.” After mentioning the “historic” visit made by the President of the Republic to Russia last year, which gave a “strong impetus to the development of our relations in all areas,” Mr. Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodine specified that his “important and fruitful” meeting with the President of the Republic had allowed to address several issues “which are intended to develop our relations that date back to the time of the Soviet Union.”
In the same vein, he stressed the importance of developing parliamentary relations between Algeria and Russia, within the framework of the Declaration of Deep Strategic Partnership signed last year in Moscow by Presidents Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Vladimir Putin. “Parliamentary relations must contribute to the development of other aspects of our bilateral relations, which are developing with notable dynamism,” he said. The audience took place in the presence of the President of the National People’s Assembly (APN), Mr. Brahim Boughali, the Director of the Cabinet at the Presidency of the Republic,
Mr. Boualem Boualem, and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Mr. Lounès Magramane.
As a reminder, the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Mr. Vyacheslav Ictorovich Volodin, began an official visit to Algeria the day before yesterday, Monday, indicated a press release from the National People’s Assembly (APN). This visit “will bring a new milestone to the building of relations between the two countries, which wish to strengthen their bilateral relations, particularly at the parliamentary level,” the same source specified. During this visit, “the presidents of the two parliamentary institutions held joint discussions on issues related to cooperation and parliamentary activity” of the two countries.
