The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, chaired the day before yesterday the inauguration of the feldspar extraction and processing unit, located in Ain Barbar in the commune of Seraïdi in the wilaya of Annaba. This unit, with an annual capacity of 90,000 tons, will allow Algeria to export 10,000 tons of feldspar during 2025, revealed the minister.
In a statement to the press after following a presentation on this unit, Mr. Arkab indicated that the State “has adopted a development strategy for the mining sector based on the realization of 26 mineral research and exploration projects, including that of the extraction and processing of feldspar in Ain Barbar in the commune of Seraïdi.”
This unit, “the first of its kind in Algeria”, has more than 3 million tons of reserves which will increase to 6 million tons by adding the reserves of the neighboring mine, added the minister on a working and inspection visit to the wilaya of Annaba, ensuring that Algeria will increase its annual production capacity of this mineral through the development of this mining activity.
In addition, he said that “this material used in various industries including ceramics and glass was imported by Algeria, which today produces it in a way that covers national needs, thus reducing the import bill and strengthening Algeria’s position on the world market for mining products, which constitutes one of the priorities of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to build a solid national economy.”
The minister then went to the Didouche Mourad estate in the commune of Annaba where he inspected the project to build an administrative group for Sonelgaz subsidiaries, the work on which is nearing completion and which should be inaugurated on November 1.
This structure has five administrative buildings reserved for the management of gas and electricity distribution and transport operations, social works and occupational medicine, according to the explanations given on site to the minister who inaugurated two 60/220 kilovolt and 30/60 kilovolt electrical transformer stations at the Dhraa Errich urban center in the commune of Oued El Aneb.
Mr. Arkab said on site that the commissioning of these two stations will improve the service and reduce the pressure on the other electrical transformer stations, especially during this summer period, noting that the wilaya of Annaba has recorded a great development in terms of electrical coverage by having 1,700 megavars ready for distribution, of which only 30% are used, which means that the wilaya records a surplus in electrical energy.
At the Naftal Sidi Brahim site in the municipality of Annaba, the minister laid the foundation stone for projects to build a firefighting training school and the headquarters of the Social and Cultural Affairs unit of the Naftal company and inspected the phosphate and nitrogen fertilizer complex of the Fertial company in the municipality of El Bouni.
