Russia has appropriated the geographical brand of Melitopol Cherry
Z-stae media report that RoZpatent issued a certificate of “exclusive right” to the Melitopol Cherry brand in favor of the occupation administration of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
“The Federal Service for Intellectual Property has issued the first certificate of exclusive rights to a regional brand. It was the geographical indication “Melitopol cherry,” they said.
Long before that, back in 2020, Melitopol cherries received the official title of geographical brand in Ukraine. An application for registration of a geographical indication in December 2019 was submitted by the public union “Association of Melitopol Cherry Producers”.
