Ishchenko was 55 years old, on February 25, 2022, he joined the territorial defense of the Azov Special Forces Regiment as a military driver. In the spring of 2022, he was captured by russia in Mariupol, and then became a defendant in a criminal case along with 23 other Ukrainians.
The Southern Military District Court is prosecuting members of Azov under articles on participation in the activities of a terrorist organization and an attempt to seize power by force. Among them are both military and those who have served in the civil service, for example, cooks.
Earlier in the hearings, most of the defendants did not plead guilty to the charges, some of the defendants admitted partially. In addition, two of the 24 defendants were exchanged and do not take part in the hearings.
