Satellite images emerge showing Russian warehouse in Toropets after Ukrainian UAV attack

The Skhemy project’s investigative journalists have revealed satellite photographs of the Russian Ministry of Defence’s weapons warehouse in the Russian town of Toropets, Tver Oblast, following the 18 September attack by Ukrainian drones.

Background: 

• On the night of 17-18 September, drones from the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) and the Special Operations Forces (SOF) successfully attacked a large warehouse belonging to the Russian Ministry of Defence’s Main Missile and Artillery Directorate in the Russian town of Toropets in Tver Oblast.
• The source reports that the warehouse stored missiles intended for Iskander tactical missile systems, Tochka-U tactical missile systems, guided aerial bombs and artillery ammunition.
• Following the drone attack, a fire and detonation occurred in the town of Toropets. The fire covered an area 6 kilometres wide. Local authorities announced the evacuation of the population.
• In 2018, the Russian Ministry of Defence stated that the arsenal’s integrated storage of missiles, ammunition, and explosive materials meets the highest international standards.
